In her book, \u201cUnmasking AI,\u201d she examines the social implications of technology and discusses the movement to prevent AI harms. As the recipient of this award, she will receive a grant of $100,000 to advance her work in supporting equity\u00a0and accountability in AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Launched in 2022, this annual award uplifts a new generation of leaders who are creating transformational change and working to advance civil rights through the online world.<\/p>\n\n\n<div data-animation='fade-in' class='full-widget'>\n\t<div class='video-widget'>\n\t\t<video autoplay loop muted playsinline>\n\t\t  <source src=\"https:\/\/archewell.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/naacp_-_archewell_foundation_digital_civil_rights_award_2024-1080p.mp4\">\n\t\t<\/video>\n\t\t<button class='video-widget__cta'><svg class='sound'><use xlink:href=\"#sound\"><\/use><\/svg>Play With Sound<\/button>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am incredibly humbled and honored to join such an illustrious group of receipts for the Digital Civil Rights Award from the NAACP and The Archewell Foundation,\u201d said Dr. Joy Buolamwini. \u201cWith the rapid proliferation of AI, it is more crucial than ever to ensure that these algorithms acting as gatekeepers serve us all and do not impede on the civil rights of marginalized communities.
